Kaspersky Pros And Cons

Some of the Kaspersky good and bad.But mostly is more good than bad. Thus Kaspersky is a good antivirus with a rational price.

Here's the reveal:

Real-time Protection

Protects your computer in real-time against viruses, spyware, adware, and malware. You can relax knowing your antivirus software is protecting you 24/7.

Spyware Removal

Stops spyware and adware from attacking and infecting your PC. Keeps your PC clean and free from unwanted spyware applications.

Web-page scan and URL Protection

Scans and monitors web sites for dangerous code that could harm your PC.

Email Protection

Protects your inbox from viruses, spyware, adware, and malware by scanning all incoming and outgoing emails. Scans email text for dangerous web-links and malware.

Instant Messaging Protection

Stops dangerous file transfers that attempt to come through your Instant Messaging (IM) conversations. Keeps your IM conversations free from suspicious contacts.

Anti-phishing

The anti-phishing feature was not as effective as we expected. Not a single phishing URL was detected when we tested Kaspersky's anti-phishing component. Even though we tried known phishing sites that were only 2-10 hours old, no phishing attempts were detected by Kaspersky (even though the latest updates had been installed).

Kaspersky User Interface

  • Straightforward and responsive.
  • Nicer than its previous version (Kaspersky Anti-virus 2009).
  • Had removed uneccesary graphs.

Computer Resources Usage

Computer specifications:
Pentium M 1.7Ghz, 533Mhz FSB, 2Mb L2 Cache. 1.00Gb DDR2 RAM, 80Gb Hard Disk. Installed on Windows 7.

* Very low RAM usage (14.2 Mb during IDLE, 14.5 Mb during Scanning).
* High CPU usage during Scanning process ( Max of 98%).
* Uses quite alot of CPU usage even during update.

High CPU usage during scanning is normal for a anti-virus. It allows faster scanning. Windows Task Manager did not correctly showed the actual CPU usages during scanning.

Good Features

* Start and Stop scanning with the ability to Resume scanning from last scanned directory.
* 3 Scanning Types (Full Scan, Quick Scan, Scan by Selection).
* Does not open an extra window for scanning.
* Remembers the time and detected threats of last scan.
* Ability to roll back to previous update.
* Extra security features (Virtual Keyboard, Rescue Disk, Tune up browser settings, Microsoft Windows Setting Troubleshooting, Erase your activities history).
* Types of protection (File, Mail, Web, Instant Messenger, Proactive Defence).
* Table-based logging (Time of detection, Status - Deleted?, What is Detected, Location of Object).
* Able to password protect the settings and prevent the closing of the anti-virus.

Cons

* Very slow at pausing protection. Enabling back protection is even longer.
* Quite high CPU usage during update process.
