Overclocking your Processor
Overclocking, which was once the domain of power users and high-end gamers, has now gone mainstream. It's true that overclocking might prove to be a shot in the arm for your CPU. However, if things go awry, you could well have a fried CPU.
There are scads of information regarding overclocking on the Internet. But sadly, most of thewebsites tout overclocking as a walk in the park, misleading users by concealing the associated risks. A computer novice, unaware of the risks involved, may set out to overclock the processor based on some advice he got from such a website. This really makes me cringe. Is the whole process of overclocking a no-brainer?
In simple words, overclocking your processor requires an alteration in the hardware settings in order to make it run faster than the manufacturer's specification. The ideology is that the manufacturer's ratings are a result of stringent trials and tests performed against the CPU. Then onwards, the CPU is tagged with a particular clock frequency at which it can take up substantial workload on a regular basis without malfunctioning. This clock rate is often a notch lower than the maximum a CPU can sustain.
PC enthusiasts perceive this as a windfall, and try to breach the frequency barriers set by the manufacturers. This can be a viable option for CPUs which can be easily overclocked, since some CPUs have better overclockability than others. But in general, overclocking your processor can be a risk-prone endeavor.
Overclocking is also employed by a few unscrupulous component resellers. They overclock a processor, falsely remark it as a high speed processor, and then onwards sell it at profit. Major brands like Intel strive to curtail such swindling acts. Intel has employed a mechanism called CPU locking, where the clock multiplier is set to a permanent value. Therefore, overclocking your processor, especially if it's an Intel product, is a bit harder than usual.
A point to be noted is that Intel's CPU locking mechanism has much to do with unscrupulous vendors rather than end user overclocking. But at the end, it looks like you might have to seek out other means for overclocking your processor.
Let's say you really want something extra from your existing CPU, but you are on a shoestring budget, and the best possible option is overclocking. Even if you opt for overclocking your processor, you need to take a few precautions, lest it can be a real bummer for you.
The conventional heat sink and CPU fan won't do much good, since an overclocked processor dissipates a lot more heat. If not dealt with properly, you could face frequent hang ups, system crashes and random reboots. Though a rarity, your processor could also suffer permanent damage. It is recommended that you install an effective cooling mechanism for your overclocked processor, such as water cooling or Peltier cooling. Also ensure that you possess a computer case that enables proper ventilation for an efficacious cooling.
What I have presented here might appear dissenting to a few overclocking zealots, but it's the truth. I suggest you carry out some basic research before you plan on overclocking your processor.

Standard of 802.11g
802.11g
In 2002 and 2003, WLAN products supporting a newer standard called 802.11g emerged on the market. 802.11g attempts to combine the best of both 802.11a and 802.11b. 802.11g supports bandwidth up to 54 Mbps, and it uses the 2.4 Ghz frequency for greater range. 802.11g is backwards compatible with 802.11b, meaning that 802.11g access points will work with 802.11b wireless network adapters and vice versa.
The 802.11g standard for wireless networking supports a maximum bandwidth of 54 Megabits per second (Mbps).
802.11g and other Wi-Fi network protocols include a feature called
dynamic rate scaling. If the wireless signal between two connected Wi-Fi devices is not strong enough, the connection cannot support a maximum speed of 54 Mbps. Instead, the Wi-Fi protocol reduces its maximum transmission speed to a lower number to maintain the connection.
It is fairly common for 802.11g connections to run at 36 Mbps, 24 Mbps, or even lower. When dynamically set, these values become the new theoretical maximum speeds for that connection (which are also even lower in practice due to the Wi-Fi protocol overhead described above).
Pros of 802.11g - fast maximum speed; signal range is good and not easily obstructed
Cons of 802.11g - costs more than 802.11b; appliances may interfere on the unregulated signal frequency

Data protection principles
Data protection principles- 1. Personal data shall be processed fairly and lawfully and, in particular, shall not be processed unless-
- 1. at least one of the conditions in Schedule 2 is met, and
- 2. in the case of sensitive personal data, at least one of the conditions in Schedule 3 is also met.
- 2. Personal data shall be obtained only for one or more specified and lawful purposes, and shall not be further processed in any manner incompatible with that purpose or those purposes.
- 3. Personal data shall be adequate, relevant and not excessive in relation to the purpose or purposes for which they are processed.
- 4. Personal data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
- 5. Personal data processed for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes.
- 6. Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the rights of data subjects under this Act.
- 7. Appropriate technical and organizational measures shall be taken against unauthorized or unlawful processing of personal data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal data.
- 8. Personal data shall not be transferred to a country or territory outside the European Economic Area unless that country or territory ensures an adequate level of protection for the rights and freedoms of data subjects in relation to the processing of personal data.
(from http://en.wikipedia.org)
What does “fair processing” mean?The first data protection principle requires you to process personal data fairly and lawfully. Ensuring fairness in everything you do with people’s personal details is, in our view, central to complying with your duties under the Data Protection Act. In practice, it means that you must:
* have legitimate reasons for collecting and using the personal data;
* not use the data in ways that have unjustified adverse effects on the individuals concerned;
* be open and honest about how you intend to use the data, and give individuals appropriate privacy notices when collecting their personal data;
* handle people’s personal data only in ways they would reasonably expect; and
* make sure you do not do anything unlawful with the data.
Fairness generally requires you to be transparent – clear and open with individuals about how their information will be used. Transparency is always important, but especially so in situations where individuals have a choice about whether they wish to enter into a relationship with you. Assessing whether information is being processed fairly depends partly on how it is obtained. In particular, if anyone is deceived or misled when the information is obtained, then this is unlikely to be fair.

What is data protection act?
Data Protection Act 1998The Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) is a United Kingdom Act of Parliament which defines UK law on the processing of data on identifiable living people. It is the main piece of legislation that governs the protection of personal data in the UK.
Although the Act itself does not mention privacy, it was enacted to bring UK law into line with the European Directive of 1995 which required Member States to protect people's fundamental rights and freedoms and in particular their right to privacy with respect to the processing of personal data.
In practice it provides a way for individuals to control information about themselves. Most of the Act does not apply to domestic use,[1] for example keeping a personal address book. Anyone holding personal data for other purposes is legally obliged to comply with this Act, subject to some exemptions. The Act defines eight data protection principles.

Free up your Hard Disk Space
Free up your Hard Disk Space on Windows Vista
Do I need to worry about my disk space?
Of course you do! Though hard drive capacities are in constant growth, you are still limited. Most people owning a large capacity hard drive think that they do not have to worry about free space because they've got plenty of it. Well, this is quite untrue: the more space you have, the less likely you will clean up, and the more likely your stuff will pile up. And then who will be surprised when the notification balloon in the right, lower edge of the screen will appear, announcing that You are running out of disk space? You will, of course.
Your disk space is very likely to suffer constant shrinking, thus constraining you to free up some more. You can try deleting unused files, uninstalling programs, and you will see the free space bar taking shape, but what if it isn't enough?
How do I free up some disk space?
If you have reached the conclusion that uninstalling programs and deleting files isn't enough, you should be aware of the fact that there is an application in Windows which can make your tasks easier. It is called Disk Cleanup and it will help you free up your disk space by searching for files you can safely erase, letting you choose to delete some or all of them.
Disk CleanupDisk Cleanup analyzes your hard drive to look for unneeded files and folders that are of no further use to your computer. Over time, these files collect and may need to be cleaned up once in a while. Features such as Temporary Internet Files can take up a lot of sometimes valuable HDD space which is why your computer may need a 'clean up'.
1. Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.
2. Select Disk Cleanup.
3. Choose which files to clean up, either My files only or Files from all users on this computer, in the window that will appear. Then click Continue when a new window prompts you to go through with the operation (this window may not appear if User Account Control turned off).
4. Select the hard disk drive that you want to clean up in Drive Selection in the dialog box and click OK.
5. Analyzing Disk Cleanup

GA-8SG667 motherboards
Gigabyte is known to offer good quality, fair priced motherboards. Gigabyte GA-8SG667’s package is decent. You can find inside all you need to install the board in your case: two IDE ribbon cables (unfortunately one of them is UDMA33), one ribbon floppy cable, one USB bracket, one CD with drivers, the user’s manual and the motherboard. The user’s manual describes the motherboard's installation but fails to provide information to advanced users. Overall it’s an useful manual, but I think that Gigabyte could have done more. The motherboard has five PCI slots, one AGP and three DIMM slots. It’s not a very large motherboard, actually the integration level of the SiS 968 is pretty high. On board you can find a six channel AC’97 audio controller (the already notorious ALC650 from Realtek) and six USB ports. I think that there are versions of GA-8SG667 which also have an onboard network controller because the necessary space is visible on PCB.
Although Intel chipsets seem to be the most attractive solution for the majority of users, it’s obvious that lower priced chipsets have a market too. VIA was not able to get Intel's seal of approval for their Pentium 4 chipsets and they have a lot of trouble in entering certain markets. The situation is very favorable for the talented company SiS that owns a license from Intel because they have no rival in producing low cost Pentium 4 chipsets.
The motherboard's layout is quite good, except for the ATX power source connector which is not placed very inspired near the rear motherboard connectors. The SiS 648 chip is passive cooled by a medium sized heatsink. Near the fifth PCI slot and the IDE connectors there are the two additional headers which connect four on-bracket USB ports. The headers position is good for airflow maximization, but not the easiest to work with. Fortunately you won’t have to play with these headers too often. The motherboard uses the ITE IT8700F I/O controller which is able to control three FAN speeds beside the traditional I/O tasks. There are only two fan headers on GA-8G667 and only one is close to the CPU socket.
